2006 top music

I guess it only makes sense, that I would be posting a list of top music for the year past.

If you know me, you know that for more than 12 years i wrote a music column for our local daily newspaper, the Peterborough Examiner. In it i covered local music gig’s, as well as some of the bigger summer festivals in Barrie and Toronto.

But, enough about that, as those days are gone.

Now, this venue is my sole repository for anything musical that needs to be said.

My friend, Kathie sent through a list of her best of the year (The Hidden Cameras, We Are Scientists, Magneta Lane, The Aggrolites, Los Straitjackets, Hank Williams III, Lily Allen, Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3, New York Dolls, Buzzcocks), and requested the same from me…
so here goes (note to Kathie – this list may differ slightly):

10 – the Hold Steady – Boys & Girls In America
9 – Islands
8 – Flaming Lips
7 – Hot Chip
6 – Lily Allen
5 – Beck – The Information
4 – The Long Winters – Putting The Days To Bed
3 – Decemberists – the Crane Wife
2 – Junior Boys
1 – tom Yorke – The Eraser

The Eraser was a staple of my listening from the moment i downloaded it weeks before it’s release. Yorke is the lead singer of Radiohead and on his debut solo outing, he takes an electronic route that is perfectly suited to his beautiful voice. Bravo!

I have it on vinyl….it’s very lovely.
